These five sessions will focus on the use of open questions and parallel tasks to effectively, but manageably, differentiate learning in the mathematics classroom while still meeting curriculum requirements. Each session will combine many task examples with suggestions for how they are delivered; participants will be encouraged to try out particular examples between sessions. Time will be allocated in the last four sessions to discuss how students responded and for participants to raise questions. The sessions will be made as interactive as possible. The first session will deal more generally with the how and why and examples of open questions and parallel tasks and each of the subsequent sessions will focus on one strand, whether number, patterns and relations, shape and space or statistics and probability, providing many more examples each time.

This learning opportunity is being offered through a grant from Alberta Education.
