Math Intervention/Programming Instrument (MIPI)

This session will familiarize participants with the Math Intervention/Programming Instrument (MIPI) that was designed and created by Edmonton Public. It will focus on an overview, the main goal of the MIPI, how to set the stage for implementation and what analysis of the data could look like.

What is the MIPI?

  •         A numeracy screening tool taken at the beginning of each school year that can be used with all grades 2-10 students.
  •         Students complete a short assessment on broad math concepts they have learned from the previous school year.

What is the purpose of the MIPI?

  •         To gauge how well students understand various math concepts.
  •         To assist teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders to know where each student is in their math knowledge and skills.
  •         To program for groups or individual students for learning recovery.
  •         To strengthen Division’s work to ensure math instruction is aligned with student learning needs.

·         To focus on what can be learned from the task over focus on the task
