Denise Peterson
Denise Peterson (B.Ed., M.Ed.) has been a teacher, Principal and Educational Consultant for nearly four decades. She was Principal of an Elder-directed partnership school with Siksika Nation and Golden Hills School Division which was awarded the Premier’s Award of Excellence in Innovation. She is a tipi holder, the recipient of a Blackfoot name and has received an Excellence in Education Award from the Siksika Nation. In her role as Councillor for the Town of Strathmore, she was an inaugural part of instituting the Siksika/Strathmore Anti-Racism Initiative. In 2023, in recognition of her work in advocacy, she was a recipient of the Queen’s Jubilee medal. Denise's Blackfoot name is mamiaitsikimi. She is dedicated to the tenets of Truth and Reconciliation and understands the essential importance of honoring Indigenous Knowledge through stories of lived experience and authentic voice.
